Gluten Freedom week is approaching and to celebrate, I’ll be profiling many of the restaurants that are participating in this inaugural gluten-free food festival in Toronto. Today’s restaurant highlight is Little Anthony’s Italian + Bar, a neighbourhood fine dining Italian restaurant located in Toronto’s Financial District; known to locals for its amazing food and wine pairings.

Italian food, as we all can attest to, is usually one of the first things that gets stricken off the gluten-free list. I, myself, had to avoid such restaurants for years. Thankfully, though, Little Anthony’s is one of the rising stars in this market that is stepping up to the plate so that people with Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance can still indulge in the rich flavours of this cuisine.

The original Little Anthony’s, founded by Bob Antoniou, was a downtown landmark for over 17 years. Following a three month renovation, the restaurant now re-opened under the Little Anthony’s monogram with a brand-new kitchen, and a fresh new flavour and atmosphere.

Little Anthony’s has long recognized the growing demand for gluten-free options and always strives to meet the needs of their customers.  Within all of their restaurants (which also includes fine Greek dining restaurant, Volos, and the Mexican cantina, El Caballito – also participants in the festival) the staff take various precautions to meet gluten-free needs. Once a guest informs their server of their dietary restriction, the guest’s dishes are prepared by one individual chef from start to finish to ensure the cooking method and ingredients have not come into contact with any source of gluten. (So be sure to that your server clearly understands your needs when you order).

To start: Turkey Meatballs in Tomato Sauce, Basil, Parmigiano
Main: Penne Di Funghi with Mixed Mushrooms, Truffle Oil, Marjoram, Parmigian
To finish: Citrus Panna Cotta with Spiced Crème Anglais
